Battle of Bastards: Bosworth, with a hint of Hannibal
Jon Snow, noble warrior that defeated death itself, was certainly no match to Ramsay Bolton´s tactics. Sansa knew it. Rather than disclose her negotiations with Littlefinger, she chose ( wisely ) to let her brother command as he saw fit and just help when needed. Many fans are asking why she would allow most of her men to die , just to save the day at last minute, but I understand Littlefinger is NOT the person you want to ask favors.
Bolton´s forces, like of Richard III, outnumbered the Starks. Bosworth was the same, with Henry Tudor having about a third of his opponent´s forces.
Ramsay was sure of the victory, but he needed (wanted) slaughter, to show, once and for all nobody should oppose him. He used the same tactic Hannibal used against the Romans: double envelopment. As the picture shows, the Starks army was encircled and remained incapable of moving. There is very little one can do to break this formation and the effect on moral must be devastating.
The battle of bastards copied not only the escale of Bosworth, but also its outcome. When Henry Tudor was in clear danger and his forces would not hold for much longer, the Stanley brothers army came to change the tide and save the day. Littlefinger had apparently nothing to gain or lose by taking sides; just like Thomas Stanley back in 1485, his treason eventually sealed Richard III´s destiny .
Ramsay Bolton, however, was a coward; Richard III, for all his sins, was a warrior king that died in battle and did not run on his horse.
